ALL OTHER STANDARD BREED CLASS (AOSB)
PLEASE NOTE:
While both pea comb and cushion comb are considered acceptable within this breed, the American Poultry Association (APA) guidelines allow only one color and one comb type to be submitted for acceptance at a time. Accordingly, this SOP applies exclusively to the comb type selected for the current submission, with the specific color variety to be determined.
Following acceptance, work may begin toward the development and standardization of a pea comb color variety, which would be pursued through a separate APA submission.
HISTORY
The Índio Gigante originated in Brazil during the late 20th century through selective breeding of tall, long-legged fowl derived from Asiatic and Oriental game ancestry, including Malay and Shamo influences combined with Brazilian Cairpira. The breed was developed primarily for ornamental exhibition, emphasizing exceptional height, upright station, long legs, and commanding presence rather than combat utility or meat production.
ECONOMIC QUALITIES
Primarily ornamental. Noted for size, height, and exhibition presence. Egg production secondary.
