Raising Brazilian Indio Gigante right here in the USA

The American Índio Gigante Breeders Association (AÍGBA) exists to preserve, educate, and responsibly advance the Índio Gigante breed in the United States.

Índio Gigante is not a novelty chicken, a backyard fad, or “just a tall rooster.” It is a distinct Brazilian giant breed with a documented history, defined morphological traits, and a growing international presence. Our mission is to ensure that as interest in this remarkable breed expands in the U.S., it does so with accuracy, integrity, and respect for the breed’s origins.

AÍGBA was formed by breeders and enthusiasts who believe that proper breed recognition requires more than social media photos and height claims. It requires organization, record-keeping, education, and adherence to an established standard.

Size alone does not define Índio Gigante. Breed type matters.

Our Commitment to Standards

AÍGBA recognizes that breed legitimacy is built through consistency and documentation.

Our association supports:

• Clear definitions for males and females at various life stages

• Measurable, repeatable evaluation methods

• Transparent discussions about genetics and breeding outcomes

• Responsible representation of birds offered for sale or exhibition

We are actively working toward formal recognition through the American Poultry Association.

Join the Effort

Whether you are a seasoned breeder, a newcomer to the breed, or simply someone who values rare and historic poultry, AIGBA welcomes your interest.

Membership requires active or pending APA membership, reflecting our commitment to established poultry governance and long-term breed recognition.

Índio Gigante deserves to be understood, not mythologized.

We’re here to do the work - correctly.
