The American Índio Gigante Breeders Association (AÍGBA) exists to preserve, educate, and responsibly advance the Índio Gigante breed in the United States.
Índio Gigante is not a novelty chicken, a backyard fad, or “just a tall rooster.” It is a distinct Brazilian giant breed with a documented history, defined morphological traits, and a growing international presence. Our mission is to ensure that as interest in this remarkable breed expands in the U.S., it does so with accuracy, integrity, and respect for the breed’s origins.
AÍGBA was formed by breeders and enthusiasts who believe that proper breed recognition requires more than social media photos and height claims. It requires organization, record-keeping, education, and adherence to an established standard.

• Educating breeders and the public on the true history and characteristics of Índio Gigante
• Promoting ethical breeding practices that prioritize structure, health, and breed type
• Supporting the development of a U.S.-based breed standard aligned with documented Brazilian standards
• Preparing and presenting Índio Gigante birds at APA-sanctioned exhibitions
• Building a knowledgeable breeder community focused on long-term preservation, not shortcuts
